BUDAPEST, Oct 12 (PRIME) – Energy imports diversification should not mean complete rejection of Russian natural gas by the E.U., Hungarian Foreign Minister peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday following a meeting of the E.U. energy ministers.
“The government of Hungary supports the idea of energy diversification, but it does not mean rejection of Russian energy sources, it means attraction of as many sources as possible, for instance, through an increase of the amount of gas from Azerbaijan and expansion of capacities of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline,” he said.
The E.U. should build more pipelines and liquefied natural gas terminals and improve its infrastructure instead of making politicized and ideology-driven decisions, he said.
During the latest meeting in Prague, the E.U. energy ministers failed to make decisions, but it is for the better, as their previous decisions hurt Europe’s energy security, Szijjarto said, adding that Hungary was ready to reject suggestions that hurt its energy security, including a price cap for Russian gas.
The European energy crisis would last for at least 2023 and 2024, he added.
